This year we decided to spread the love and donate our Christmas card money to the charity ‘Bliss’, after seeing the amazing work carried out by the volunteers in Otley. Here I am outside Mel Metcalf’s house after handing over our donation.
Not only has this inspirational lady ‘lit up her house’ for Christmas, she has also been instrumental in collecting over 2,500 gifts and knitted items which are being sent to babies and children in 17 different hospitals, hospices, neonatal units and children’s homes across the Aire and Wharfe Valley this Christmas. As well as raising much needed funds for the charity, Mel and the rest of the Bliss volunteers, are quite literally giving children a gift they will remember forever!
In case you don’t know about the fantastic work that Bliss do, here’s some information that will astound you:
One in every 9 babies in the UK is born either premature or sick. That’s over 80,000 babies every year with one being admitted to special care every six minutes.
The vital care that babies receive after birth can have a profound impact on the rest of their lives. For families struggling to cope, this will be one of the most difficult, emotional and stressful times of their lives.
Bliss is the UK charity working to provide the best possible care and support for all premature and sick babies and their families.
A massive ‘well done’ and a very Merry Christmas to everyone at Bliss, your work is amazing!
